Morning!
Can you say, TGIF? I certainly can!! This week, while quite arduous, worked out quite well but let me tell you…I’ll enjoy the 2 or 3 hours I’ve given myself to rest on Saturday! Storms are coming up around my area of the woods so I’ll be certain to keep my family indoors as much as possible.
But I digress.
Today’s topic centers upon some simple, effective methods of community recruiting. After all, local community residents do NOT have to be relocated for local positions, they do NOT have to be flown in for interviews, they know the area and local businesses, they’re aware of the schools and elder care….in other words, they’re excellent LOCAL resources for your recruiting bottom line.
So now tell me….
Have YOU been taking advantage of this?
It’s not difficult at all! Here are 3 easy ideas you can implement today….these are simply ideas that will assist in convincing passive or active job seekers they should consider your services.
Idea #1.) Pull together a local community resource site
Let’s say someone is considering a position within your community. They’d probably be interested in travel resources such as traffic updates, weather updates and the like. And what about links to your local newspapers?
Remember, every page you build on your website gets indexed within search engines eventually (and if you use a blog for it, almost immediately). Links to schools for family matters, links to libraries for research, links to local gyms for health/wellness, links to restaurants that welcome business lunches etc….these all provide added reassurances that you’re extremely knowledgeable about the area.
Idea #2.) Sponsor a Restaurant Business Lunch Fishbowl
You’ve seen these, haven’t you? Local business restaurants will have a fishbowl into which people can drop their business cards. Why not contact a local restaurant yourself and ask if you could sponsor a fishbowl with the understanding you’ll pay for one lunch AND receive all the business cards entered?
Idea #3.) Give a talk to your local Chamber of Commerce
What better way to begin your community networking than by giving a career-related talk for your Chamber of Commerce? ChamberOfCommerce has direct links to all town and city commerces in the USA – it’s a great way to be perceived as an authority in the hiring business. And of course, at the end of your talk, you’d hand out your recruiter brochures and invite visitors to your site to get your free career ezine and the like.
There are dozens of other ideas you can implement to become known in your community as the Recruiter of Choice….check out some of my Recruiter eSeminars to learn more!
Remember…the people with whom you network might not be looking right away for a job….but chances are, someone in THEIR network is. Why not make it easy for you to be recommended as a value-added resource? Your recruiting bottom line will thank you for it.
Enjoy,
Barbara Ling
