Good morning!

Do you follow Vince Wright? The man, the maverick, the brains behind My Power Forum? If not, you certainly should….because then you’ll read gems like the following. Supremely good stuff, I might add!

To wit:

…A little meditation on how I distinguish between teachers and advisers:

Metaphorically, if you think of yourself as a car, it may help clarify
an important distinction, not just for the sake of taxonomic
classification but, rather, to help understand WHO you need and WHY
you need who you need:

1. Far too many advisers, while perhaps offering good advice, offer
that advice from an *external* relationship. From an external
position. When advisers advise from this position, they are
comparable to a driver trying to drive the car from OUTSIDE! (Live
with that image for awhile, please…) I’ve had many, many, many
people give me the same "good" advice over and over and over. Like
good seeds falling on infertile ground, unfortunately, very little has
come of their good advice. I believe it was because they seemed to
be trying to "drive me" rather than *teach me* to "drive me, myself".
And though I may have had a natural hunger to want to join them in
solving the problem they were giving advice to me to solve, my
ordinarily fertile/receptive mind became less fertile by becoming less
receptive – to "being driven". Autonomous people don’t like being
driven. Even my advisers, being autonomous people themselves, don’t
like being driven, either. Yet, autonomous people NEED HELP, TOO!
There are lots of intelligent, experienced, well-meaning advisers who
advise from the outside but who don’t reach the inside of the people
they wish to help.

2. On the other hand, far too few teachers, fall in the role of
advisers and forget that they must get into the vehicle *WITH YOU*…..MORE….

Well, what are you waiting for? Click on the MORE link above…and enjoy the other wisdoms Vince shares. It’s truly worthwhile indeed.

Enjoy,

Today’s kudos gets sent to Bill Vick of XtremeRecruiting.tv. Now, if you’re not aware of Bill, the man is an absolute Jedi Master when it comes to virtually every aspect of recruiting online. A savvy businessman and one of the first recruiters to really embrace what the Internet could offer his colleagues, his accomplishments both offline and on are simply undeniable. To quote a bit of his bio:

…The passion that drives me is helping others pursue and achieve excellence. By definition I’m a HeadHunter, serial entrepreneur, author, vlogger, publisher, big biller, speaker, and recruitment industry coach. I believe everybody has the ability to achieve success in life and my goal is to help others succeed. …

I went from sales and marketing management with fortune 500 companies such as Revlon, Max Factor and Helene Curtis, to the computer and software industries where I launched a chain of computer stores and participated in taking a software company public. I joined Management Recruiters International (MRI) in 1986 and was their National Rookie of the year in 1987. For the last 20 years I have run my own retained executive search business and along the way created a software company focused on software for recruiting and staffing firms, and founded Recruiters OnLine Network (RON), a top 100 site. I sold my software and web businesses in 2002.

I have been a founder and board member of the Pinnacle Society recognizing achievement in the staffing industry, a national speaker for NAPS, served on the Board of Directors of The Texas Association Staffing Services (TAPS), was an officer with the Metroplex Association of Personnel Services (MAAPS) as well as a founder of the local Dallas Independent Recruiters Group (IRG) and a lifetime member of the USMC Force Recon Association (FRA) …MORE….

Anywhos, today’s kudos focuses upon the re-inventing of his video recruiting site. It now uses a highly video-friendly look and feel, and offers visitors brilliant, insightful ideas from plethora of the finest minds of the recruiting industry. Some of the interviews include:

Today’s post centers upon the Man, the Myth, the Maverick Master of Talent Acquisition, Jim Stroud of The Recruiters Lounge. I’d like to direct your attention to the US News and World Report article that spotlighted him like so!

And I quote:

…While college grads scrounge around for advice on how to get recruited, the recruiters themselves turn to Jim Stroud for advice on how to recruit. Stroud writes The Recruiters Lounge blog, where he shares his insight into the evolving job market, new technology, and recruiting news….

Stroud has consulted with some of the country’s most favored employers, such as Google and Microsoft. He agreed to share the inside scoop on the recruiting process and details on how you can actually get yourself in front of a recruiter. Excerpts from an interview with U.S. News:

…How important is a college major? Does it have to be relevant to the job?
I don’t think so. I know several successful professionals and entrepreneurs who operate outside of what they studied in college. The best benefit of any major is mastering the patience, dedication, and organization it takes to achieve a long-term goal. These traits are transferable across every discipline.

What’s the most important thing students can do while they’re in college?
The most important thing is to create and maintain a reputable online identity. Savvy recruiters know how to leverage the Internet to find active and passive job seekers. If students are not promoting themselves online, they are missing out on unadvertised opportunities….MORE….

Did you catch that:

The most important thing is to create and maintain a reputable online identity

I’m astounded by how many college kids these days just let that supremely easy opportunity just simply, well, slide away. It’s something so easy to do…and yet, even some of the smartest Millennials I know are just too complacent to put it into action.

Sigh.

Anywhos, the rest of the article is well-worth your time! Definitely check it out and send a congrats note to Jim – he truly deserves it.

Enjoy,

Thanks so much for dropping by my blog; I hope the day has treated you well!

Me, well, because school is starting next week, I gave myself permission to take off the day and drive 200+ miles with the family to the PA Rail Road Museum. My gosh, "incredibly wow-like zowieness" (to quote Honorable Daughter II) doesn’t describe it at all – the locomotives from the 1800s are still just brimming with personality as they sit there like silent sentinels in the vast museum. The history those iron beasties must have seen; it staggers the imagination.

But I digress.

So! I came home to discover that Bill Vick has put up an interview with Bill Radin. Now, Bill Radin is one of my favorite recruiting trainers in the industry; long long ago, back before the earth’s crust cooled when I was unknown in the field, he reviewed my very first book, The Internet Recruiting Edge, even before it went to print…and gave me invaluable tips for book writing, editing, cover graphics, the marketing process and more.

He was (and is!) super wellknown, I was a nobody…and he helped me out without expecting anything in return.

To this day, 11 years later, that has stood out in my mind (one of my trademarks is I never ever ever forget a good turn nor an ill wish).

So! I’d like to suggest that you get yourself over to Bill’s Interview at :
