Morning!
Today’s post came into being because of Jim Stroud’s excellent tutorial on, well, how to find experts in any field. To wit:
EXAMPLE #1: Find Experts Speaking at Conferences
Try the following search string on Google:
“add your keyword here” (conference | symposium | workshops | trade.shows | sessions | event | expo | seminar | webinar) ~presenter | ~speaker | ~keynote
Simply replace “add your keyword here” with a particular industry. For example, I found 410,000 search results when I replaced “add your keyword here” with “telecom,” 336,000 results when I used “life sciences” and 373,000 results when I added “semiconductor.” I….MORE….
Great stuff that…I highly recommend you check out.
I’d like to add my own ideas as well. One super method for "experts resources" in any field is to search for book, patent, white paper or authority blog authors as well! For example, let’s say you wanted to find launchpads for experts in plastics engineering. Consider this search:
intitle:"plastics engineering" (blog | author | patent | "white paper" | "industry leader")
Notice how I have enclosed my keyword within quotes (as I’m not interested in, say, articles that talk about "the plastics used in the engineering coffee cup were a tasteful shade of beige, while….").
Let’s try another one!
Ever get the warm fuzzies when thinking about the word ‘guru’? Check out this search:
intitle:guru (blog | author | patent | "white paper" | "industry leader")
and
intitle:"management guru" (blog | author | patent | "white paper" | "industry leader")
Lots of neat little bits of information start revealing themselves when you scan the results.
Nice, huh? And the above is just one teeny tiny idea of how you can creatively use Boolean searching to find both passive and active candidates today.
Enjoy,
Barbara Ling
