How nice of you to drop on by my RISE recruiter blog today! Hope everything is treating you well; over here in RISEland, it’s a fine sunny Saturday and my family is taking it easy before, and I quote, "Paradise envelops the land" (ie, school starts).
But I digress.
Onto today’s topic!
Tell me now, and be honest, okay?
When life flings frozen lemons at your head, do you stand there waiting for the BONK! or do you adroitly catch them with one hand and bestow frozen margaritas to your colleagues with the other?
I was reminded of this burning question when I read about the oh-so-cool must-have gadget, the 13-in-1 multi-tool pen set! To wit:
….As anyone who can use Google knows, it was obscure English novelist and dramatist Edward Bulwer-Lytton (1803-73) who first coined the phrase "The Pen Is Mightier Than The Sword". We’re not quite sure what he meant by that, but he was probably thinking of something very similar to the marvellous 13-in-1 Multi Pen Tool at the time. Probably.
In addition to its most obvious function as a svelte, stainless steel ballpoint pen, the 13-in-1 cunningly contains another 12 useful tools (do the math) within its sleekly segmented and knicely knurled body – truly this is the Rolls Royce of the Swiss Army Knife of pens!* If you know what we mean…
But what are these tools, we hear you ask? Patience, please, we are about to tell you. You get the following: a hole puncher; a stainless steel file; a short cutting blade; a flat screwdriver; a wire sleeve remover/small nail remover; an ear pick; a long cutting blade; a tweezer; a Philips screwdriver; a stainless steel fork and a saw. Wow! It’s like it has come from the future, or something …..MORE….
Is that the ultimate of coolness or what?
I found out about it from:
- Super Pen Is Thirteen Tools in One Tiny Package
- 13 in 1 Multi Tool Pen has MacGyver written all over it
and of course, it got me thinking.
You’ve probably heard of the Swiss Army Knife, right? The 483-in-1 gizmo knife thingee that slices, dices, automatically scours the Internet for quality resumes of passive candidates and the like? It reminded me of one of the first time I visited a client site to teach Internet sourcing. Cue the nostolgic music…
It was 1997, and I had traveled to Boston, MA. While at the client’s site, the president of the company mentioned that his email program wasn’t working. But as a technogeek hailing from AT&T and Bell Labs, such things were second nature for me to fix…and so I ended up repairing the email problem along with teaching the boolean search strings.
Never did forget that time! Sure, I was hired to deliver one service (teach how to find free resumes on the Internet) but because of my skills background, was able to go above and beyond.
Tell me now – let’s address the first image I described in this post.
When those blasted frozen lemons start zeroing in towards your cranium….do you stand there like a doofus or do you take advantage of the situation?
Hmmmm?
