Proactive Candidate Sourcing and More
Savvy recruiters know how to use the Internet to create their own candidate and client network for their own personal use...often
for zero dollars.
Really, in our all-popular nutshell, that's the main thing about recruiters and the Internet. Especially in today's Internet that incorporates
Web 2.0 applications (blogs, social networking, wikis, etc.)
Oh, sure, I could astound you with exciting ways for finding free resumes online. The RISE Light-Bringing Recruiter Knowledgebase includes quite a lot of comprehensive information about that.
But....says I.
- What good are all those free resumes if your first contact attempt with the person results in a "oh gee lovely, yet another recruiter"?
- What good are all those free resumes if they're not targeted?
- What good are all those free resumes if they turn out to contain lies of greater magnitude than politicians' promises?
Resumes are just pieces of paper, when you really think about it. Okay, they're electronic documents. Okay, they're ways for you to get an idea about a possible candidate.
Right?
Wrong, actually.
Resumes are your key to MANY future profitable relationships.
And a relationship isn't:
- See Jane
- See Jane see a resume
- See Jane get that person hired
- See Jane get a commission
- Good Jane!
True, it would be nice if life really was that simple! But it's not. Instead, it's more like:
- See Jane
- See Jane's skills in social networking to reach the widest targeted audience possible
- See Jane's ability to convince candidates/clients she's a power with whom to be reckoned...even before the first contact
- See passive candidates PROACTIVELY contact Jane
- See Jane get that person hired
- See Jane get a commission
- Good Jane!
That's what Internet recruiting is all about. It's about tapping into the unbelievable wealth of information and power it affords recruiters...and having that work for you day in, day out.
So what do savvy recruiters really know?
They know how to get all the candidate/client pre-building blocks into place
Smart recruiters:
- Come across as a Subject Matter Expert in their recruiting areas (which is astonishingly easy to do)
- Are comfortable with Web 2.0 applications (they can
source via social networking, blogging, tagging and the like)
- Generate an RSS feed of their available jobs, so other sites can promote them as well
- Set up a candidate resource center that includes an industry-specific blog (there are even tools that allow you to autopost to blogs, otherwise known as "set it and forget it". My RISE recruiting news blog is autogenerated; I don't have to touch it but it promotes my pages all over the Internet).
- Set up a career newsletter that automatically sends out content every week, thus increasing their brand and visibility while saving them marketing time.
- Set up thriving networks in LinkedIn, MySpace and many other popular sites
- Increase their client base by precisely tapping into the hidden market of quality candidates exactly when their clients request a perfect match.
The result? Increased placements, satisifed clients, and a
beefier bottom line.
What else do savvy Internet recruiters know? They are masters of:
Networking and generating a warm welcome for themselves at
- Places where their future candidates hang out
- Industry events
- Online forums
- Local businesses
- Online communities
- User groups
'Course, that's not all! They also:
Know how to market and set up a profitable candidate funnel that:
- Proactively encourages candidates to tell their friends about their services, thus doing their marketing for them
- Allows them to keep track of their contact information...and send out targeted career bulletins at the push of a button
And let's not forget that:
Smart recruiters know how to write magnetic job posts that
- Get the attention of qualified candidates
- Discourage the attention of candidates distantly related to sea sponges
- Answer the WIIFM question critical to all candidates
So now let me ask you.....
